Hosting Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2026 will bring significant economic, cultural and tourism benefits across the north, Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald has said.
The minister was speaking at the official opening of the festival at Belfast City Hall. She said visitors, performers and communities from across Ireland and beyond were being welcomed to the event.
More than 700,000 visitors are expected to attend, with an estimated economic impact of around £53 million. Dr Archibald said the festival would provide a major boost for the economy, support local businesses and showcase what the north has to offer.
The minister encouraged visitors to explore beyond Belfast during the festival week. She said the event was an opportunity for people to experience local scenery, culture and visitor attractions across the north.
Dr Archibald said the Fleadh would strengthen the north’s international profile, drive visitor spend and leave a legacy for communities. She said the week would include competitions, performances and informal music sessions.
Tourism Northern Ireland is supporting the delivery of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2026 with £1 million in funding to Belfast City Council. The minister wished those involved a successful and enjoyable festival.
