Hamas returns body of slain Israeli hostage Tal Haimi

Hamas returned the body of Tal Haimi, a 41-year-old civil defence chief from Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak, who was killed defending his community on 7 October 2023. The casket arrived at Abu Kabir forensic institute in Tel Aviv on 20 October 2025.

Hamas handed over the body of Tal Haimi to Israel on 20 October 2025. The casket was transferred via the Red Cross to the Israel Defense Forces after inspection in Gaza.

Haimi had been killed while leading a defence team against Hamas militants on 7 October 2023. His body was taken to Gaza and remained there until its return.

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed Haimi was posthumously promoted to sergeant major in the reserves. His family, including his wife Ela and four children, received notification of the return.
