A mass walkout by public servants across the island of Ireland is expected to cause widespread disruption to education and healthcare.

More than 100,000 employees, including nurses, school staff and civil servants, have already adopted work-to-rule tactics at the end of September.

Primary and secondary school teachers in the Republic began implementing these measures at the start of October.

The industrial action follows a prolonged dispute over pay terms between public sector representatives and the Irish government.

Fórsa, which represents the largest union within the Republic's public service sector, secured support from nearly 97% of its members during an industrial ballot.

A further strike is scheduled to take place on 21 October as negotiations continue.

The current unrest has resulted in potential cancellations of hospital appointments and the possibility of school closures nationwide.

This development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between workers and state authorities.
