Industrial action has commenced across the Republic of Ireland involving health, education and local government workers.

The dispute centres on an unresolved public sector pay disagreement.

Fórsa, identified as the largest public sector union in the country, has joined the walkouts.

Ninety-six point six per cent of Fórsa members who participated in a recent industrial ballot voted to support the action.

Over one hundred thousand employees, including nurses, school personnel and civil servants, began work-to-rule measures on Wednesday morning.

Members of SIPTU, representing public sector staff in health and administration sectors, have also agreed to implement work-to-rule tactics.

Fuller strike action is scheduled for two days in October, specifically the fourteenth and twenty-first.

On those dates, schools are expected to remain closed with picket lines anticipated across the nation.

The initial move to work-to-rule saw significant disruption to daily operations on Wednesday.

No further details regarding the specific demands or the duration of the dispute have been provided at this stage.

The situation remains fluid as negotiations continue between the unions and relevant authorities.
