Canada claim first World Cup win with 6-0 rout of Qatar

Canada secured their first FIFA World Cup victory with a 6-0 win over Qatar, a match overshadowed by a serious injury to midfielder Ismael Kone.

Canada defeated Qatar 6-0 in their second matchday game in Group B, marking their first-ever World Cup win. The victory came after a hat-trick from Jonathan David and goals from Cyle Larin and Nathan Saliba.

Midfielder Ismael Kone was stretchered off in the 51st minute after a challenge from Qatar's Assim Madibo. The tackle led to a red card for Madibo following a VAR review, leaving Qatar with nine men.

Saliba scored a free-kick in the 64th minute to make it 4-0, then celebrated by holding up a replica of Kone's jersey. Jacob Shaffelburg added a fifth goal, and David completed his hat-trick in stoppage time.
