Qatar earned their first point in World Cup history after Boualem Khoukhi scored a header in the 94th minute to equalise against Switzerland. The goal came after a sustained period of pressure from Qatar in the final minutes of the match.

Switzerland took the lead in the 17th minute when Breel Embolo converted a penalty awarded after a collision between goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada and Remo Freuler. The decision was confirmed after a VAR review, which followed a delay for medical treatment.

Qatar had been outplayed for much of the match, with Switzerland registering 26 shots. Despite their dominance, Switzerland failed to convert clear chances, allowing Qatar to capitalise on a late opportunity. The result marked a milestone for Qatar in their second World Cup appearance.
