Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the sixth FIFA World Cup, becoming the first player to achieve this feat. He opened the scoring in the sixth minute of Portugal's 5–0 win over Uzbekistan.

Ronaldo added a second goal before half-time with a composed finish. The victory followed a 1–1 draw with the Democratic Republic of Congo, which had drawn criticism over his performance.

Portugal's coach Roberto Martinez praised Ronaldo's dedication and drive as key to his longevity. Uzbekistan's coach Fabio Cannavaro described Ronaldo as one of football's strongest players.
