Israel confirmed it had received the remains of soldier Hadar Goldin, who died in the Gaza Strip in 2014. The death occurred two hours after a ceasefire ended that year’s conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Goldin’s family had campaigned for 11 years to recover his remains, marking 4,000 days since his body was taken. His remains were the only ones from the 2014 war still in Gaza before the current conflict.
Israel’s military had previously determined Goldin’s death based on evidence found in a tunnel, including a blood-soaked shirt and prayer fringes. The remains were returned after negotiations involving the release of trapped Hamas fighters.
