Justice Minister Naomi Long has confirmed a decision regarding the future of Limavady Courthouse following a recent public consultation.

The inquiry sought views from residents and stakeholders on a proposal to permanently close the building and dispose of its assets.

As a result of this process, business for the Limavady Adult Magistrates Court will be permanently reallocated to an alternative courthouse located within the NICTS estate.

Responses gathered during the consultation have been described as helpful in informing the way forward for the project.

The Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunals Service is an Agency of the Department of Justice, responsible for supporting all Northern Ireland's courts and the majority of Northern Ireland's tribunals.

This proposal forms part of the ongoing implementation of the NICTS Estates Strategy.

The strategy aims to focus and prioritise investment to provide improved user experience, value for money, resilience and sustainability across the NICTS estate.

The NICTS Estate currently comprises 23 buildings, including three for administrative or headquarter functions, located in every county and local government area.
