The Knesset passed a law making the death penalty mandatory for Palestinians convicted of fatal attacks deemed terrorist acts by military courts. The legislation removes judicial discretion, requiring automatic imposition of capital punishment.
Executions will be carried out within 90 days of sentencing, with no in-person visits allowed for those sentenced. Legal consultations will be conducted exclusively via video link to a separate detention facility.
The bill allows courts to impose the death penalty without a prosecutor request or unanimous decision, permitting a simple majority. The national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, has publicly supported hanging as a method.
