Northern Ireland had 820,800 payrolled employees in June 2026, with the total unchanged from the preceding month and 1.4% higher than in June last year, according to the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency. The annual increase was recorded in NISRA’s latest labour-market report.
The June estimate was the same as the figure reported for May. Over the longer annual comparison, however, the number of people on payrolls was higher than in June 2025, when measured on the basis used in the NISRA report.
NISRA reported median monthly pay of £2,480 in June. That was £21 higher than the previous month and £115 above the level reported a year earlier, according to the agency’s labour-market figures for Northern Ireland. The pay measure sits alongside the payroll employee estimate.
The report described Northern Ireland as the only UK region to record annual growth in payrolled employees in the regional comparison it cited. That comparison relates to the annual change, while the Northern Ireland total itself was unchanged between May and June.
The agency’s figures provide two distinct comparisons for the payroll total: no month-on-month movement between May and June, and a 1.4% increase over the year to June. The reported number of payrolled employees was 820,800 in June 2026.
Median monthly pay also rose on both measures presented by NISRA. The £2,480 June figure was £21 higher on the month and £115 higher on the year, based on the agency’s latest labour-market report for Northern Ireland. The figures are reported as medians rather than an average pay measure.
NISRA’s latest payroll estimate can be revised. The June report nonetheless records 820,800 payrolled employees, an unchanged monthly position and annual growth of 1.4%, alongside the reported increase in median monthly pay to £2,480.
