Northern Ireland’s latest labour market statistics have been published by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency.
The number of employees receiving pay through HMRC PAYE in June 2026 was 820,800. That was unchanged over the month and represented a 1.4% increase over the year.
HMRC PAYE earnings data indicated that employees in Northern Ireland had median monthly pay of £2,480 in June. That was up £21, or 0.9%, over the month and £115, or 4.9%, over the year.
NISRA said estimates from HMRC PAYE for the latest period are based on early data and are more likely to be subject to larger revisions.
Labour Force Survey estimates put the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for March to May 2026 at 1.8%. The employment rate for people aged 16 to 64 rose to 72.1%, while the number of employed people aged 16 and over was estimated at 901,000.
The economic inactivity rate for people aged 16 to 64 was estimated at 26.5%. NISRA said small quarterly and yearly changes in the headline Labour Force Survey estimates were not statistically significant.
In June, the seasonally adjusted claimant count was 33,800, or 3.3% of the workforce, down 1.8% from the previous month’s revised figure. NISRA also recorded 60 confirmed redundancies in June, bringing the annual total to 1,670.
