The Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Sir Chris Bryant, has today directed an independent judicial review into the operational methods of the Parades Commission.
Bryant met with the commission early this morning to discuss their reaction to a significant legal ruling delivered by the High Court last week regarding the Drumcree parade.
He stated that while he accepts the issues highlighted are being addressed and progress is occurring, further examination is required to ensure confidence in the organisation's processes.
The review will be conducted by an independent judge who will assess the commission's decision-making framework and submit findings directly to the Secretary of State.
Brynt emphasised that all communities should back the investigation and allow the body time to restore public trust.
He urged everyone involved in organising parades and protests to ensure their activities remain lawful.
The official announcement confirmed that the commission's membership structure will remain unchanged during this period.
Last week, Bryant requested a detailed plan from the organisation outlining how they intended to recover lost credibility in their work.
That proposal was received on Friday evening before the Secretary of State spoke with officials on Tuesday morning.
He noted that significant strides have been made over the past three decades in reducing tensions surrounding public processions across the region.
