Maolíosa McHugh has confirmed he is leaving his role as representative for the West Tyrone constituency at the Northern Ireland Assembly.
Paul Boggs, a councillor representing the Sperrin area, has been chosen to fill the vacancy that arose when McHugh stepped down.
McHugh had served in the Assembly since 2019 but previously lost his seat on Strabane District Council during elections held earlier this year.
He was subsequently selected by Sinn Féin to occupy the vacant assembly position for West Tyrone shortly after losing his local council role.
Earlier in the year, McHugh stated he would not be contesting re-election to Stormont when the Assembly convenes in May 2027.
Boggs first entered public office in 2011 when he was elected to Strabane District Council to represent the Derg ward.
He remained a councillor following the merger of local authorities to create Derry City and Strabane District Council in 2015.
No further details were provided regarding the specific timeline for Boggs to assume duties or any immediate conditions attached to the selection.
