The international road race known as the North West 200 will restart its schedule one week later in 2027.

This rescheduling aims to eliminate a conflict between the competition timeline and the polling day for the Northern Ireland Assembly and local authorities.

Voters across Derry City Women, Derry City and Strabane District Council, and the City of Derry Airport area will cast ballots on Thursday, 6 May 2027.

The revised programme places the opening qualifying session on Tuesday, 11 May, followed by a second session and initial heats on Thursday, 13 May.

The main feature event is now fixed for Saturday, 15 May.

Traffic restrictions are set to begin at 09:00 BST throughout all three days of racing.

Three events will take place in the evening of Thursday, with six additional races scheduled for Saturday.

Officials believe restoring the Tuesday and Thursday qualifying rhythm will boost the festive mood along the north coast route.

The event's ongoing partnership with BBC Sport Northern Ireland continues alongside these logistical updates until the 2029 anniversary milestone.

The long-term broadcast agreement remains active despite the calendar modification.
