BBC Sport NI is examining whether Portadown's triumph against Limavady United marks the beginning of a sustained campaign.

The club had failed to score in their opening nine matches before securing three goals against the newly promoted side.

Limavady United, who had won three of their previous four games, managed to equalise early through Rhys Breen.

Breen was forced off after just three minutes of play, but substitute James Teelan responded immediately by opening the scoring.

Teelan's goal helped Portadown take the lead in a match that ultimately ended with a 3-1 scoreline.

Portadown had sat four points adrift at the bottom of the Irish Premiership table before this weekend's action.

This result means they are now the only team in the league to have secured a win so far this season.

Irish League veteran David Jeffrey has been managing the club for eight weeks without previously achieving a victory.

Former manager Ben Kennedy is expected to play a role in helping striker James Teelan re-establish his consistency.

Kennedy's previous season did not conclude as hoped, and he must now rediscover both form and full fitness.

Working under Jeffrey, who knows Kennedy well, could assist the forward in regaining his status as a regular scorer.

BBC Sport NI notes that no two years in the Irish Premiership are identical and it remains too early to discuss relegation battles.

The club's challenge now shifts from securing one positive outcome to developing something more sustainable for the long term.
