Storm Chandra causes widespread power outages and school closures

Storm Chandra caused widespread disruption across Northern Ireland on 27 January 2026, resulting in thousands of homes losing electricity. The Met Office issued a yellow rain and wind warning that remained in place until midnight.

Floodwaters from the Six Mile Water River breached banks and entered homes in the Meadowside area. Residents reported water levels reaching just below window sills and flooding through doors.

A woman was injured when a tree fell on her car in Lisbellaw, County Fermanagh, and was taken to hospital. Emergency crews worked to restore power and manage floodwater using tractors and pumps.
