US President Donald Trump has confirmed he intends to remove all tariffs levied on whiskey produced in the Republic of Ireland once his official visit concludes.
The decision was revealed during a ceremony at the Trump International golf resort in Doonbeg, Co Clare, where the winner's trophy for the Irish Open was presented to Shane Lowry.
Trump spent the second day of his tour observing the final round of play at the tournament.
Earlier on Saturday, he travelled to Dublin to hold meetings with Taoiseach Micheál Martin and President Catherine Connolly.
Currently, spirits distilled in the Republic of Ireland are subject to a 15% tariff when entering the United States market.
This duty applies uniformly to all goods originating from the European Union that cross into American territory.
In contrast, whiskey produced in Northern Ireland or other regions within the United Kingdom faces no such import charge.
The proposed change would alter the existing trade conditions for Irish-made spirits.
