Antrim and Armagh returned north with All-Ireland camogie titles after a three-match finals programme at Croke Park on Sunday. Antrim overcame Laois in the intermediate decider, while Armagh defeated Cavan to take the junior championship before Cork and Galway contested the senior final.
The two Ulster successes gave the day a strong Northern Ireland interest. Both counties came through national championship programmes to reach the Dublin showpiece, and their victories secured promotion in status as well as silverware at the conclusion of the inter-county season.
Cork completed the programme by defeating Galway in the senior final. The fixture renewed one of the leading rivalries in the modern game, with the counties having also supplied the finalists for several recent national competitions.
The Camogie Association scheduled all three finals as a single Croke Park bill, with the junior contest first, the intermediate game in mid-afternoon and the senior decider closing the day. More than 10,000 spectators had attended the senior semi-final double-header two weeks earlier, a record for that stage of the competition.
For Antrim and Armagh, attention will now turn to the practical consequences of their titles and the next inter-county cycle. The immediate achievement, however, is clear: two championship trophies secured on the sport's biggest annual day and a prominent finish to the season for Ulster camogie.
