Communities Minister Gordon Lyons has introduced a fresh children's book that aims to make the work of the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland accessible to younger audiences.

The publication combines colouring pages, brain teasers and straightforward explanations intended to help pupils connect with historical records held by the institution.

Lyons presented the project at Carrickfergus Library The during a stop on the PRONI on Tour programme, which has been running since 2023.

This specific event marked the eighteenth occasion of the touring initiative, bringing the archive's resources to communities across Northern Ireland.

PRONI and Libraries NI have collaborated on this outreach effort to ensure that millions of documents remain relevant to school children.

The Public Record Office of Northern Ireland is situated at 2 Titanic Boulevard in Belfast's Titanic Quarter and maintains a collection exceeding three million items.

Established on 22 June 1923, the organisation operates as a division within the Department for Communities.

Beyond the printed material, the archive continues to offer drop-in help sessions, workshops and school visits to support public engagement.
