Communities Minister Gordon Lyons has confirmed his dedication to maintaining a robust and enduring voluntary and community sector following an event held in Belfast.

During the gathering known as the 2026 NICVA Fireside Chat, the Minister engaged in a conversation centred on themes of community development, transformation and governmental function.

This dialogue provided a platform to review the initial year of cooperation between state authorities and organisations within the voluntary and community sector.

Lyons emphasised that the core purpose of the current arrangement is collaborative effort rather than simple service delivery.

He stated that the sector functions as an essential partner in achieving improved results for individuals and local populations.

The Minister noted that these groups face increasing strain on public services while continuing to operate effectively.
