Afghanistan and Pakistan extend ceasefire after Istanbul talks

The governments of Afghanistan and Pakistan agreed to extend a ceasefire following peace talks in Istanbul, Turkey, with both sides committed to a monitoring mechanism to ensure compliance and prevent violations.

The ceasefire was initially declared on 19 October after Pakistan launched airstrikes on Afghan territory targeting Pakistani Taliban militants. The truce followed weeks of violence that resulted in dozens of deaths along the shared border.

A follow-up round of negotiations is scheduled for 6 November in Istanbul to finalize a monitoring mechanism. Both sides will assess compliance and establish penalties for any violations of the agreement.

Pakistan continues to accuse Afghanistan of harboring militant groups such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. Kabul denies the allegations and condemns cross-border attacks as violations of its sovereignty.
