Australia's Gordon Allan has broken the Commonwealth Games record in the men's para-cycling C2 1000m event at Glasgow 2026, recording 1:11.282 and winning silver.
Commonwealth Sport reported the ride today as a new Games benchmark in the event. It came at Allan's first Commonwealth Games and gave him both a record and a medal in the 1000m test against the clock.
Allan, 28, grew up in western Sydney and was involved in several sports during his school years. His background included swimming, athletics and football, and he represented Australia at the Football World Championship Under-19 before his move into cycling.
His switch followed a Paralympics Australia talent day in 2011, where Paralympic cyclist Peter Brooks encouraged him to take up the sport. Allan then joined Parramatta Cycling Club and began training with the Western Sydney Academy of Sport.
He made his international para-cycling debut at the 2018 Track World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, finishing fifth in the C2 1000m event. At the Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2021, he finished fifth in the C1-3 race against the clock and ninth in the C1-5 mixed team sprint.
The Glasgow result adds a Commonwealth Games silver medal to that record and places Allan's time into the Games record book. His 1:11.282 performance now stands as the benchmark for the men's C2 1000m event at Commonwealth level.
