Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has presented a comprehensive vision for transforming Northern Ireland's transport infrastructure into a sustainable, inclusive and resilient system by 2035.
The Transport Strategy 2035 places active travel and public transport at the heart of its objectives alongside efforts to lower carbon output and enhance air quality.
Kimmins emphasised that the approach must deliver safer, more accessible environments for all residents across urban and rural areas alike.
As the document was released, she also marked the start of a consultation period on the draft Eastern Transport Plan 2035.
The proposed changes to the eastern network aim to broaden travel options and strengthen links between communities, services and local opportunities.
Public input has shaped the strategy which recognises that effective transport relies on providing genuine choice for people.
Key proposals for Belfast City Centre include expanding pedestrian-priority streets and establishing a new civic spine running through the district.
A city-wide 20mph speed limit is among the measures intended to improve safety in the urban core.
Further developments involve introducing Glider routes, streamlining bus routing and adding dedicated priority lanes for buses.
