Hamas spokesperson Abu Obaida was killed in an Israeli airstrike on a residential building in Gaza City's al-Rimal neighbourhood. The strike targeted a six-storey apartment used as a dentist's surgery.
The Israeli military said five missiles struck the building from two directions, hitting the second and third floors. Intelligence from Shin Bet and the IDF's Intelligence Directorate had identified Obaida's location.
Obaida had served as the public face of Hamas's military wing, al-Qassam Brigades, and frequently delivered anti-Israel messages. He was among the few remaining senior figures from before Hamas's 7 October 2023 attack.
