Anas Mahmoud Ahmad Hamdan was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Khan Yunis, Gaza Strip, on 17 July 2026. He served as a company commander in Hamas and was described as a central figure in hostage operations.
Hamdan was responsible for documenting hostages during release ceremonies and held Avera Mengistu before and during the war. He served as a right-hand man to senior Hamas military leaders, including Muhammad Deif and Rafa’a Salameh.
The IDF stated he was recently involved in training terrorists and attempting to plan attacks on Israeli troops and civilians. He was targeted due to his ongoing threat to Israeli forces operating in the Gaza Strip.
