JJ Spaun secured the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth following a final round performance that saw him finish one stroke ahead of Manuel Elvira.
Spaun, who had previously won the US Open in 2025, joined Billy Horschel and Arnold Palmer as the only other Americans to claim victory at this venue.
The American's triumph marked his third major title and added his name to a list of winners that includes Tony Jacklin, Sir Nick Faldo, Seve Ballesteros, Jose Maria Olazabal and Rory McIlroy.
Elvira, a 30-year-old from Santander currently ranked 294th in the world, finished at 15 under par after opting for a conservative strategy on the final hole.
Having made two birdies on the par five during the week, Elvira had been positioned to challenge for a playoff if he had secured a par on Sunday.
Instead, he selected an iron off the tee which landed in a fairway bunker, leading to a missed approach shot that nearly found the grandstand.
Elvira then duffed his fourth ball into the sand after being awarded a free drop, preventing him from reaching the green for a crucial birdie.
His omission from the US Presidents Cup, where America faced a rest-of-the-world team excluding Europe, was cited as a key factor in motivating his campaign.
Spaun's win will earn him an estimated prize of £1.1m, though he noted that missing out on the Presidents Cup had been the driving force behind his success.
Elvira's brother Ignacio, who finished tied for 44th place earlier in the tournament, accompanied him off the 18th green to offer consolation.
The leaderboard also saw R McIlroy and A Scott finishing ahead of Elvira, while V Hovland and L Aberg completed the top ten group.
Spaun celebrated his achievement as he became just the third player from the United States to win the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
