Canada's Maude Charron has won a third consecutive Commonwealth Games weightlifting title after taking gold in the women's 63kg at Glasgow 2026.
The 33-year-old topped the podium at the SEC Armadillo on Tuesday, extending her run of Commonwealth success. Charron, who won Olympic gold at Tokyo 2020 and silver at Paris 2024, held off England's Sarah Davies Smale to secure the title.
Davies Smale attempted to move into the lead with her final lift, loading 138kg on the bar, but the weight proved beyond her. She took silver, while 17-year-old Femily-Crystie Notte won bronze for Nauru's second weightlifting medal of the Games.
Commonwealth Sport reported that Charron was not committing herself to a possible fourth Commonwealth title bid in 2030. The immediate focus, according to the report, was on enjoying the current Games rather than looking ahead to another cycle.
The women's 63kg medals were among three weightlifting medal sets awarded on the day. Commonwealth Sport described returning champions, local heroes and a haka as the highlights of day three in the sport.
Charron's win confirmed her continued position at the front of Commonwealth weightlifting in her event. With three consecutive gold medals, she leaves Glasgow 2026 with another major title in a career that already includes Olympic medals and repeated success on the Commonwealth stage.
