Wales’ Emma Finucane has won Commonwealth Games gold in the women’s individual sprint at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow.
Commonwealth Sport said Finucane progressed through the rounds before taking the title, with her performance listed as a record-breaking one in the women’s track cycling sprint.
The Welsh rider’s winning time was recorded as 10.322 seconds. England’s Sophie Capewell claimed silver, while Finucane’s Wales team-mate Rhian Edmunds won bronze.
Malaysia’s Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri finished fourth, just outside the medals, as the sprint event brought together riders from across the Commonwealth in the closing stages of the competition.
The result added another gold to Wales’ cycling programme at Glasgow 2026. Commonwealth Sport also noted that Welsh riders had made history in the velodrome, including a Commonwealth Games record on their way to victory in the women’s team sprint.
Finucane’s individual sprint victory came at the venue named after Sir Chris Hoy, where Wales had already enjoyed success on the track. The official Games account places her at the head of the event standings, ahead of Capewell and Edmunds, after the final rounds were completed.
