Wales’ Anna Morris has won Commonwealth Games gold in the women’s 4000m individual pursuit after setting a Games record at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow.
Morris recorded 4:24.272 on her way to the title, according to Commonwealth Sport, as Welsh women claimed two golds among three medals on the second day of track cycling competition.
England’s Josie Knight finished with silver in the event. Scotland’s Erin Boothman secured bronze after prevailing in the bronze medal race, giving home spectators a podium result in the endurance discipline.
Commonwealth Sport said Morris’s ride formed part of a Welsh podium procession in the velodrome. The result put Wales on top in one of the Games’ major track cycling events and added to the team’s strong start in Glasgow.
The individual pursuit requires riders to combine sustained speed with measured pacing across 4000 metres, and Morris’s winning time was listed by organisers as a new Commonwealth Games record.
Her success came in the Welsh jersey on a day when the velodrome programme produced medals for Wales, England and Scotland. The public record from organisers identifies Morris as the gold medallist, Knight as runner-up and Boothman as the bronze medallist.
