Kate O'Connor claimed Northern Ireland's first gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games by winning the heptathlon at Scotstoun Stadium. She achieved a total of 6,569 points across seven events to claim victory.
O'Connor led after the first two events and maintained her advantage through strong performances in the long jump and javelin. She recorded a season's best 52.85m in the javelin to extend her lead.
She finished first in the 800m with a time of 2:10.45, securing her gold medal. Her performance made her the first new heptathlon champion at the Games in eight years.
