Kobe McDonald, who secured an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship title with Mayo in July, will return to Gaelic football for the upcoming Mayo Senior Football Championship.
The 18-year-old has received explicit permission from AFL side St Kilda to participate in his club's campaign.
McDonald made his debut for Mayo in February and played a pivotal role in their victory over Kerry in the final.
Following that success, he was scheduled to relocate to Melbourne to commence his professional Australian Rules career.
The AFL season concluded earlier this year, and the club's pre-season schedule does not commence until November.
McDonald has remained in Ireland over recent weeks and was photographed alongside the Mayo squad at the Electric Picnic festival in Laois on Sunday.
Eamonn Armstrong, who also plays for St Kilda, is set to represent Duleek Bellewstown in the Meath championship.
Liam O'Connell, a former regular for St Kilda's last season, will line out for Ballincollig in the Cork Senior Football Championship.
