Cillian O'Connor has confirmed his retirement from inter-county football following his team's victory at the Sam Maguire Cup against Kerry this summer.
The 34-year-old forward made his debut for Mayo in 2011 under manager James Horan, becoming a regular player over several years.
He reached four All-Ireland finals between 2012 and 2017, though each match concluded with a defeat for the county.
In 2019, O'Connor surpassed Kerry's Colm Cooper to become the leading scorer in the history of the All-Ireland football championship.
He also holds the record for the highest individual tally in a single championship game, scoring 4-9 in Mayo's semi-final win over Tipperary in 2020.
Although he was included in the matchday squad for the recent final against Kerry, O'Connor did not feature in the decider.
Injuries restricted his participation to just two appearances during the 2026 season after he declined to play in the full 2025 campaign.
The decision marks the end of a significant chapter for the player who has been closely associated with Mayo since his early days.
