A group of public-realm and shopfront projects has been completed in Larne town centre following joint investment by the Department for Communities and Mid and East Antrim Borough Council. The work is intended to bring vacant or underused spaces back into everyday use and improve the setting for local businesses.

The package includes a pop-up park on Main Street, environmental improvements around Dunluce Street and grants supporting work to commercial frontages. The department contributed £331,945 and the council £35,805, giving a combined programme value of £367,750.

The pop-up park converts a previously inaccessible gap site into a temporary community space and creates a pedestrian link between Main Street and Point Street. Earlier council plans included seating, planting, artwork and activity intended to increase the time people spend in the centre.

Dunluce Street work forms part of a wider effort to improve routes and visible vacant sites, while the shopfront element spreads investment across individual premises. Town-centre programmes of this kind combine direct public works with smaller grants because street condition and private frontages shape the same visitor experience.

The projects do not complete the longer-term regeneration of Larne, but they deliver several visible elements from existing plans. Their practical test will be whether the spaces are maintained, used by residents and linked to further occupation of empty properties rather than operating as isolated improvements.
