Tadej Pogacar won stage 10 of the Tour de France today as the race resumed after its rest day with a demanding route from Aurillac to Le Lioran. The UAE Emirates-XRG rider claimed his third stage victory of this year’s race.
The 166.6km stage included seven categorised climbs and 3,800 metres of elevation. The Tour’s official report described the day as a severe return to racing, with repeated attacks on the ascents before the decisive move late in the stage.
Pogacar made his winning attack on the penultimate ascent, the Col de Pertus. The official race report said Richard Carapaz of EF Education-EasyPost had been the last attacker to be brought back before Pogacar’s move decided the stage.
Remco Evenepoel, riding for Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, finished 32 seconds behind Pogacar. Paul Seixas of Decathlon CMA CGM completed the day’s top three and moved into the top five overall, while Isaac del Toro of UAE Emirates-XRG lost ground in the finale.
The victory was Pogacar’s 24th Tour de France stage win. According to the Tour, he became the first rider to record three stage wins on 14 July, moving beyond riders including Jacques Anquetil, whose record on the date also included two overall triumphs.
The stage began with an early attack from Alex Kirsch of Cofidis as soon as the flag dropped. Lidl-Trek then worked at the front of the bunch during the opening phase, with the team seeking to position Mads Pedersen for the intermediate sprint in Lacapelle-del-Fraisse.
