Mathieu van der Poel won the final stage of the Tour de France in Paris on Sunday as Tadej Pogacar secured overall victory in the 2026 race.
The Tour de France report said Pogacar rode into the closing stage in yellow and completed a record-equalling fifth overall triumph. The finale finished on the Champs-Elysees after a Paris route that included climbs of the Cote de la Butte Montmartre.
Pogacar attacked repeatedly on the Montmartre climb, according to the official stage account. After the third and final ascent, Van der Poel was the only rider with him at the front, and the pair worked together to hold off the bunch in the closing kilometres.
Van der Poel then covered the final 600 metres alone and resisted the sprinters at the line. His Alpecin-Premier Tech team-mate Jasper Philipsen led the sprint behind, while Mads Pedersen of Lidl-Trek was third on the stage.
The final classification also confirmed other jersey winners. Pedersen became the first Danish winner of the green jersey and the sixth rider to win points standings in all three Grand Tours, according to the Tour. Richard Carapaz took the polka dot jersey and the Super Combativity award.
Isaac del Toro finished third overall and won the white jersey as best young rider. The Tour’s roll of honour also named United States national champion Quinn Simmons as the best team-mate of the 2026 edition.
