The 2019 Open champion, who has failed to win an individual title in the preceding four years, faced significant challenges with his putting throughout the second round.
Lowry began the day with two pars before capitalising on three consecutive birdies starting from the third hole.
At the tenth hole, a par five, he navigated long rough to sink a ten-foot putt for a bogey.
Following a par at the sixth, he converted a twenty-four-foot attempt for a birdie two on the seventh and added two more birdies to finish his front nine six-under thirty.
Birdies at the eleventh and twelfth holes created expectations of a fifty-nine total before a sloppy bogey on the thirteenth hole saw him three-putt from eighteen feet.
Despite the setback, Lowry's efficient play across all aspects of his game established a clear lead over his competitors.
