John McEntee has been named as the new manager of the Monaghan senior football team.
The appointment sees him succeed Gabriel Bannigan, who departed following a difficult period for the Farney men.
McEntee's journey to this position began when he took over charge of the club side Inniskeen four seasons ago.
He led his club through two consecutive finals in 2023 and 2025, both lost to Scotstown.
His tenure at club level preceded his move into inter-county management after succeeding Oisin McConville as Armagh's assistant.
McEntee is a former All-Ireland winner with his twin brother Tony, who also won the Sam Maguire in 2002 while managing Sligo.
Tony spent the 2026 season within the Down backroom team after a spell leading Sligo.
Under Bannigan, Monaghan secured Division Two promotion in 2025 and reached successive All-Ireland quarter-finals.
They were eliminated by Donegal and Louth in those knockout stages respectively.
The club also won the Sam Maguire series in 2019 under Bannigan's guidance with Clontibret.
Previous victories included wins over Roscommon and Westmeath, though they lost to Mayo in round one.
Monaghan were relegated from Division One this year after failing to secure a single league point.
They recovered well in the Ulster SFC with wins against Cavan and Derry before losing to Armagh in extra time.
McEntee will now oversee the team's development as he begins his first inter-county management role.
