Jon McConnell has expressed a clear desire to replicate the achievements of heptathlete Kate O'Connor on the continental circuit following her recent victories.
The Belfast athlete captured gold in the Commonwealth Games held in July and subsequently added European glory in Birmingham just days later.
McConnell now directs his focus toward the European Elite Championships, which commence on Thursday in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Reflecting on his journey to Glasgow, McConnell noted that winning the Commonwealth Games was a childhood ambition.
In Yerevan two years ago, Gabriel Dossen claimed gold while Dylan Eagleson took silver, marking the first time Ireland's men had won a medal at the World Championships since Joe Ward's silver and Michael Conlan's gold nine years prior.
