The Northern Ireland Executive is currently seeking public feedback on two distinct policy initiatives designed to shape the future of local services and connectivity.

On 2 October 2026, Communities Minister Gordon Lyons announced a call for opinions regarding a proposed Public Libraries Policy intended to guide the sector across the region.

This initiative falls under the Department for Communities' Heritage, Culture and Creativity Programme, which was established by the Minister in 2024 to renew focus on arts, museums, libraries and the historic environment.

The consultation specifically requests views on the significance of library facilities, user experiences and how these services can better serve current and future generations.

Public libraries are recognised as some of the most accessible public services available to residents throughout Northern Ireland.

Separate from the cultural sector, Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has initiated a public consultation concerning proposed alterations to permitted development rights for mobile network operators.

The Department for Infrastructure launched this engagement on 1 October 2026, highlighting the essential role that mobile connectivity plays in driving economic growth and productivity across the North.

A third related proposal involves the Bellarena to Bishop's Gate Greenway Active Travel Signature Scheme, which also entered public consultation on 29 September 2026.

The window for submitting feedback on these matters runs from 29 September at 9.00 am until 31 October at 5.00 pm, with submissions accessible via the Department for Infrastructure website.

A drop-in consultation event is scheduled to take place on 29 September at Magilligan Community Centre, 394 Seacoast Road, Bellarena, Limavady, BT49 0LAShou

Media enquiries regarding these developments can be directed to the Executive Information Service during its operational hours between 1800hrs and 0800hrs Monday to Friday, plus weekends and public holidays.
