Members of local authorities across Northern Ireland gathered to receive an overview of road maintenance and improvement plans covering the financial years 2025/26 and 2026/27.

The Department for Infrastructure confirmed that planning purposes require an indicative allocation of approximately £98 million for structural maintenance during the upcoming period.

This proposed funding represents a significant increase compared to the opening allocation recorded in the previous year, with an estimated surplus of roughly £30 million.

Divisional Roads Manager Cindy Noble outlined specific projects intended to facilitate ongoing development and safety improvements throughout the district.

In Fermanagh and Omagh, traffic management schemes are being advanced alongside works on Mountjoy, Gortin and Strathroy Roads to support the new Strule Shared Education Campus.

Further resurfacing initiatives for 2026/27 include Coolmillish Road in Markethill, Ballygowan Road in Banbridge and Cottage Road in Lurgan.

Additional notable schemes involve the resurfacing of the B72 Meenacloy Road, Ederney and the B122 Ecclesville Road near Fintona.

The wider programme encompasses the Belfast City Council Area and extends into parts of Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council within the metropolitan region.
