Officials from Newry, Mourne and Down District Council were briefed by the Department for Infrastructure on upcoming road maintenance and improvement schemes covering the 2025/26 and 2026/27 financial years.

The funding package totals approximately £12.5 million, which has been directed into a Roads Recovery Fund to address critical infrastructure needs.

Priority spending will focus on resurfacing roads, stabilising roadside structures and upgrading drainage systems throughout the area.

In addition to vehicle roadworks, officials noted that several pedestrian improvement initiatives are also being advanced in the region.

The Department stated its strategy aims to support economic growth, strengthen regional balance and enhance connectivity while promoting a more sustainable transport system.
