The Northern Ireland Executive has authorised a major upgrade to C0663 Kevlin Road in Omagh.
Liz Kimmins, who holds the portfolio for infrastructure, stated that construction is scheduled to start on Monday 28 September 2026.
The scheme involves resurfacing one kilometre of road surface alongside localised drainage enhancements.
Work will stretch from Sunningdale up to the junction at Dergmoney Heights.
Traffic management plans include a diversion route linking U3032 Dergmoney Heights with C0663 Ballynahatty Road, Dublin Road and Great Northern Slip Road before returning to Kevlin Avenue.
Access for Sacred Heart College will remain open via Kevlin Avenue and the main road from the John Street approach.
Retailers and businesses near Townview Avenue can continue trading through the designated detour path.
Residents in the Coolnagard Estate area will be directed away from the roundabout towards the alternative route as operations progress.
Local residents will retain entry and exit points within the zone, though delays are anticipated depending on daily activity levels.
The Department has organised traffic controls to reduce disruption while acknowledging that some slowdowns cannot be fully avoided.
Kimmins emphasised that the funding reflects a priority to strengthen connections for both commercial interests and local communities.
Motorists are reminded to observe all temporary signage and exercise heightened caution in the area.
The project aims to balance necessary road improvements with minimal impact on daily travel patterns.
