Brock Whiston has won gold for England in the women's 100m breaststroke SB8 final at Glasgow 2026, setting a Commonwealth Games record at Tollcross.
Whiston, the Paris 2024 Paralympic champion, finished in one minute 22.05 seconds. Commonwealth Sport reported that the 29-year-old pulled away from a strong field after starting quickly in front of her father, who was watching her race in person for the first time in 17 years.
The victory interrupted a dominant Australian evening at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre, where Australia won seven gold medals on Monday, including two podium sweeps. Whiston's result gave England one of the standout moments of the session.
Uganda's Husnah Kukundakwe won silver, securing what Commonwealth Sport described as the country's first Commonwealth Games swimming medal. The result also represented a first Commonwealth Games para-sport medal for Uganda, according to the event report.
England's Iona Winnifrith completed the podium in bronze. At 15, she became the youngest medallist of Glasgow 2026 so far, adding another notable element to a final already marked by Whiston's record and Kukundakwe's national breakthrough.
The race came on the same night that New Zealand's Lewis Clareburt won the men's 200m butterfly after recovering from a large halfway deficit against Australia's Harrison Turner.
