Emma Finucane has won her fourth gold medal of Glasgow 2026, confirming her place as the most successful Welsh woman in Commonwealth Games history.
The 23-year-old returned to the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome for the keirin, an event in which Commonwealth Sport said she had won Olympic bronze at Paris 2024.
Finucane came through two rounds before leading the 1-6 Final. New Zealand’s Ellesse Andrews finished behind her, with Australia’s Kristina Clonan also listed among the leading riders in the final.
The keirin title followed Finucane’s gold medals in the sprint, team sprint and women’s 1000m race against the clock final. Commonwealth Sport said she had become the first Welsh woman to win three golds at a single Commonwealth Games on Saturday before adding a fourth 24 hours later.
Her latest win moved her beyond Para athlete Olivia Breen in the Welsh record books, according to the official Games report. It also capped a remarkable velodrome programme for Wales across the sprint events.
The same Commonwealth Sport report also noted success for Matthew Bostock of the Isle of Man, who won the island’s first gold since Mark Cavendish in 2006. Finucane’s fourth title, however, was the headline Welsh result from Sunday’s track cycling programme in Glasgow.
