Sam Williamson won the men’s 100m breaststroke title at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday, giving Australia another gold medal in the pool at Glasgow 2026.
Commonwealth Sport recorded Williamson’s winning time as 59.17 seconds at Tollcross International Swimming Centre. The result came on the second night of the swimming and Para swimming programme, when Australia added further medals to its opening Games tally.
Filip Nowacki took silver for Jersey, while England’s Adam Ramsay-Peaty finished third. Commonwealth Sport said Nowacki’s medal was Jersey’s first at the Commonwealth Games since 1990, adding a wider significance to the result beyond the final itself.
Williamson’s victory was also set against his own return from injury. The report said the 28-year-old had sustained a serious knee injury in April 2025 and had been out of the sport for 13 months before coming back to win the Commonwealth title.
Australia’s wider swimming performance continued strongly on the night. Commonwealth Sport said the Dolphins added nine medals and two Games records during Saturday’s session, after Australia secured five golds from a possible eight.
The 100m breaststroke final was therefore both an individual title for Williamson and part of a broader Australian start to the Games. The confirmed podium placed Williamson first, Nowacki second and Ramsay-Peaty third.
