A £650,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme is to begin on the A55 Belvoir Road in Belfast, Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced.
The Department for Infrastructure said the works will start on Tuesday 11 August 2026 and will cover the section between Newtownbreda Road and Saintfield Road. The programmed construction period is due to run until Tuesday 6 October 2026.
The minister said the investment would bring benefits for road users and forms part of work to maintain and improve the strategic road network. She also thanked residents, local businesses and people travelling through the area for their patience while the work is carried out.
Traffic management arrangements will include lane and road closures during the scheme. Permanent lane closures will operate from 11 August until 31 August to allow advance civil engineering works to take place.
The road will close from 7pm on Saturday 22 August until 6am on Monday 24 August, and again from 7pm on Saturday 29 August until 6am on Monday 31 August. Further closures are planned from 6am on Sunday 6 September until 6am on Monday 7 September, and from 6am on Sunday 13 September until 6am on Monday 14 September.
The department said restrictions will also be in place at other times for the safety of road users and workers. Where road closures are required, a signed diversion will operate via Purdysburn Road, Beechill Road and Saintfield Road.
Road users travelling near Belvoir Road have been advised to allow extra time and follow signed diversion routes. Subject to favourable weather, the works are expected to be substantially complete by Tuesday 6 October 2026.
