A £615,000 resurfacing programme has begun on the A5 Beltany Road near Omagh, starting a fortnight of traffic restrictions on the route between Castletown Road and Mellon Road.

The scheme covers approximately 1.27km of carriageway. A lane closure is scheduled to operate between 9.30am and 4.30pm each day until Saturday, before the work moves to a series of full daytime road closures from August 24.

The road is due to close between 7.30am and 6.30pm from Monday to Friday next week, from 7.30am to 4pm on Saturday, August 29, and again between 7.30am and 6.30pm on Monday, August 31. It is expected to reopen each evening and throughout both Sundays.

Northbound traffic will be directed through Drumquin and Castlederg, while the southbound diversion will use Plumbridge, Gortin and Strathroy. Visitors to the Ulster American Folk Park have been advised to approach from Newtownstewart during the full closures.

The Department for Infrastructure expects the work to be substantially complete by the end of August, subject to suitable weather. Drivers have been asked to allow extra time and follow the temporary restrictions while crews are on site.
