A programme of weekend and weekday closures is under way on Ballygowan Road as a £556,000 resurfacing scheme moves along the A23 in east Belfast.

The work covers the route from Upper Braniel Road to 122 Ballygowan Road and includes renewal of the carriageway along with improvements to kerbs and footways.

Weekend closures are scheduled to run from 7am on Saturday until 7pm on Sunday. Off-peak weekday closures will operate between 9.30am and 4.30pm as the project advances through successive sections.

A signed diversion uses Upper Knockbreda Road, Saintfield Road, Comber Road and Moneyreagh Road. People travelling to Roselawn Cemetery have been advised to allow additional time and follow the diversion rather than approach a closed section.

The Department for Infrastructure expects the work to be substantially complete by September 18, subject to weather. Local access will be maintained where it is safe to do so, but drivers should expect delays around the working area.
