A £440,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme has been announced for the A2 Ballywalter Road in Millisle. Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said the work is due to start on Monday 27 July 2026.
The scheme will cover 1.1 kilometres of the A2 Ballywalter Road, beginning at Drumfad Road and continuing to a point beyond Ballywiskin Road. The Department for Infrastructure said the work will involve asphalt resurfacing along that section of the route.
The minister said the investment would improve the strength and surface quality of the road for residents, businesses and people travelling in the Ballywalter area. The department said the work is expected to be substantially completed by Friday 4 September 2026, subject to favourable weather conditions.
To allow the scheme to be delivered safely, a daily weekday road closure will be in place from Monday 27 July to Friday 4 September. The closure will operate from Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 18:00, while the road will remain open during evenings and at weekends.
A signed diversion will be in operation. Traffic will be diverted via the A2 Ballywalter Road, A2 Whitechurch Road, C256 Dunover Road, C256 Cardy Road East, C256 Cardy Road, C255 Manse Road, C252 Ballyblack Road East, B172 Ballyblack Road East, C253 Killaughey Road, A2 Millisle Road, A2 Donaghadee Road and A2 Main Street, and vice versa.
The department said its works and traffic management arrangements have been programmed to minimise inconvenience. Local access is to be accommodated, but road users have been advised to expect some delays, allow additional time when travelling near the works and comply with temporary traffic restrictions.
